Steps of Replacing a Fridge Thermostat
Thermostats are widely used in various home appliances, such as refrigerators, water dispensers, water heaters, coffee makers, etc. The quality of the thermostat directly affects the safety, performance, and lifespan of the entire machine, and is a very critical component. Among the many technical indicators of thermostats, lifespan is one of the most important technical indicators for measuring thermostat products.
If the refrigerator does not cool, does not cool automatically, or keeps cooling but does not stop automatically, it is likely that the thermostat in the refrigerator is faulty. If the refrigerator does have a thermostat failure, replacing it with a new thermostat can restore the refrigerator to normal operation. It costs about US$200 to ask a repairman to come and replace the refrigerator thermostat, while the price of an ordinary refrigerator thermostat is only a few US dollars. If you can replace it yourself, you will save money and exercise your own hands-on ability. What about enjoying a DIY?
Let’s take the refrigerator mechanical thermostat as an example to share the method of replacing the thermostat for your reference.
Tools and Accessories before Changing Thermostat:
Refrigerator, thermostat, screwdriver
Thermostat Replacing Steps:
Step 1:
Open the refrigerator and pay attention to the lighting in the refrigerator compartment. The refrigerator thermostat is usually installed in the lamp housing of the lighting.
Step 2:
Use a screwdriver to remove the two retaining screws on the thermostat cover.
Step 3:
Grasp the outer cover of the thermostat with your hands and pull it out slightly to remove the cover. Remember not to use too much force to avoid tearing the connected wires.
The inner end of the outer cover is fixed by the slot, so do not push inward or pull out the outer cover.
Step 4:
Use a cross screwdriver to remove the two screws fixing the thermostat, and then carefully unplug the four wire plugs connected to the thermostat (Be sure to remember which color wire plug is plugged into the thermostat before unplugging) Which connector is on, you might as well take a photo to remember the wiring method).
(If you don’t have qualified thermostat accessories on hand, you can pull out the thermostat to check the brand and model, so you can buy the same thermostat.)
Step 5:
Gently and slowly pull out the temperature sensor tube inserted into the inner wall of the refrigerator (the temperature sensor tube is usually tens of centimeters long), and then take out the entire thermostat.
Step 6:
Install the new thermostat: The installation steps are reverse to the steps for removing the old thermostat. First insert the temperature control tube into the inner wall of the refrigerator; then insert 4 wire plugs of different colors into the corresponding connectors of the thermostat; then use screws to fix the thermostat on the outer cover; push the bayonet end of the outer cover flat In the card slot, the other end is fixed with screws. At this point, the installation is complete.
Step 7:
Powered on and tested the machine, everything was normal, and the thermostat was replaced successfully.
Caution:
1. Before disassembling the refrigerator thermostat, the power supply to the refrigerator must be disconnected to prevent electric shock accidents.
2. When installing the new thermostat and connecting the wires, the four wire plugs must be inserted into the corresponding positions.
3. If you have weak hands-on skills and low self-confidence, please do not try it. If you have any questions during the process, please feel free to consult or hire the services of professionals.
